Foolish Take A look at the revenue trends between Micron Technology and Qualcomm reveal the former's critical role in the artificial intelligence boom, and the latter's recent struggles, ironically because of the success Micron is seeing. Qualcomm's revenue was experiencing consistent year-over-year revenue growth until 2026. This year, the company's sales started to decline.

A key factor behind the drop is reflected in Micron's revenue performance. As Micron's sales exploded in 2026, so did prices for its products. This created headwinds for Qualcomm's mobile device business.

As a result of skyrocketing prices for components such as computer memory, Qualcomm's margins are being compressed. At the same time, rising prices have reduced consumer demand for smartphone handsets, a double whammy for the company. In an effort to better align its business with the rapidly changing semiconductor industry's direction, Qualcomm is shifting focus toward servicing the AI data center market.
